Road trip checklist

Now that borders are open, there’s no better time to explore our Aussie backyard. Before you hit the road, it’s best to check that your car is in top condition.

Check out our Road Trip Checklist to make sure you and your family can make the most of your getaway on four wheels.

1. Air con

Australian summers are HOT and that can only mean one thing.. air conditioning is essential. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than sitting in a stinking hot car, so be sure that your air con is in top shape.

Airlie Auto have got you covered for air con repairs.

2. Entertainment

The best way to pass the hours on a long road trip is to stay entertained, whether you're in the driver's seat or not.

We suggest trying out audiobooks, music playlists or podcasts.

If you’re having problems with your radio or car stereo, you’re definitely going to regret not getting it checked before you leave.

Need to find someone to install or upgrade your radio? Call us today.

3. Tyres

If you want to get from A to B safely, it’s important to make sure your tyres are in good condition. Some important things to remember:

  • Be sure to check your tyre pressure, low pressures mean that your engine has to work harder and can also lead to a popped tyre.

  • Make sure your tyres have a tread depth of at least 3mm, because the less tread you have the less grip and stopping capability your tyres have.

  • Always have a spare tyre handy in case of an emergency

Not sure if you need to have your tyres changed before your trip? We would be more than happy to heck them out for you.

4. Fluids

The harsh Australian sun means that keeping the family hydrated is extremely important! Make sure you pack large water bottles so that they can be refilled at rest stops and last for the duration of your next stint.

Just like us, cars also need fluid to function properly. Make sure you check that the following parts have enough fluid:

  • Engine Oil

  • Windscreen washer fluid

  • Brake fluid

  • Coolant

If you’re not sure what to look for, booking your car in for a basic service with Airlie Auto will get you new engine oil and oil filter, plus the mechanic will inspect all other necessary fluids and let you know which ones need to be topped up.

Your car will also get a general safety inspection, giving you that added piece of mind, and if the mechanic finds anything wrong, they’ll let you know.

5. Lights

Road trips can sometimes mean driving at night, and in more rural areas, street lights can be scarce.

Ensure that all your lights are working properly, it’ll help both you and other drivers on the road stay safe.

Here’s a checklist for you to go through to make sure all your lights and their functions are working.

  • Parkers (front & rear)

  • Headlights (low beam)

  • Headlights (high beam)

  • Brake lights

  • Indicators (front, rear and possibly side/mirrors)

  • Fog lights (if fitted)

  • Daytime running lights (if fitted)

  • Interior

If you’re going bush, don’t forget to also pack headlights and torches so you don’t get lost on foot!

It’s extremely important to have your car serviced and repaired before you head off on your road trip, Airlie Auto is always here to help you out on your travels. #AirlieAuto #AirlieBeach
